Two important devices added in Patch 30.30

The latest UEFN patch, 30.30, has a lot of cool updates and plenty to talk about. In this article, we’re focusing on two really powerful devices we think every Fortnite Creator is going to want to use!

Early Access to the Side Scroller Controls Device!

You know something is exciting when there’s an early access edition.

When you next open up UEFN or Creative 2.0, you’ll see the new “Side Scroller Controls” device. This device will allow you to limit the players facing direction to a specific axis so they are always facing left or right (X axis). You can pair this device with either a Fixed Point device or Fixed Angle Camera device to build a retro style 2D side scroller platformer or beat‘em up’s. Make sure to switch on the new “Orthographic” setting for those devices to get a truly retro feel.

Remember this device is in early access so if you’re using this and find some bugs or have ideas, send them over to Epic!

Send players straight to your Creator Portal!

A key to getting a more consistent player base and hopefully, higher pay outs, is building an audience that follows you! Epic are building out more features to support the Creator Portal as well as the “Follow a Creator” addition, by adding the new Creator Profile Link device.

The device displays a unique QR code for any activating player and jumps them straight into your Creator Profile. We believe this will further reduce friction for player to follow their favorite creators and help you to start building a consistent audience. While this may seem relatively simple, this could also be a great way for you new fan base to navigate to your other islands and build your brand.

If you have multiple maps for the same game mode or have a single player game split into multiple chapters, this would serve as a convenient way for players to navigate to the next island!

From the Creator Portal, players will also be able to connect to your socials and help create a larger following across all your social medias.
