Get prepared for First Person Fortnite!

The experimental “First Person Camera Mode” device has quietly slipped its way into your UEFN and Creative toolset and make no mistake, this device will create waves in the Fortnite Creative, bringing a new perspective to the many beloved game modes!

We’ve mentioned in the past, how excited we are about the prospect of first person Fortnite, along with the rest of the Creator community. While its not quite here yet, the experimental release of the device has already received a lot of attention and community engagement.

Epic has taken their time with this device, justifiably so (changing a third person game to a first person game can bring a host of bugs and imbalances), and you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how polished it already feels. Weapon details and animations already look clean and polished, they also have the camera view working with other mechanics such as grappling and wall climbing.

Unfortunately, islands containing experimental devices can not be published yet but you can get your grubby mitts on the early release device and start building your games from the whole new point of view!

Check out the docs linked below to get the nitty gritty of the new device.

Didn’t catch the patch notes? We got you!

We know you’re all busy creators, building the next genre defining games to break through the RedVsBlue wall. You don’t have time to scroll through pages of patch notes, and sometimes important notes can slip by!

We’re here to make sure you get all the important details that might have slipped by unnoticed.

Here are our favorites from the last few patch notes that are worth your attention!

The Creator Marketing Playbook

Okay, we hear you, this isn’t your conventional patch note since it’s not about the engine or bringing an update. It was mentioned in the 31.30 patch notes though, and it’s so important, we wanted to get this front and center so no one misses out.

Epic released a beautifully detailed walkthrough , complete with handouts, describing how to best approach marketing your island, from identifying a target audience, comparing competition and building a social media strategy.

With thousands of islands being released regularly, cutting through the noise and getting engagement can feel impossible at times. Creating an effective marketing approach is something the most successful islands have honed over the past few months and is the extra step you’ll want to take to be seen.

Creator Pages on Fortnite.com

Are you having a hard time building a consistent audience? Well investing in the new Creator Pages might help!

You can flesh out and build your own creator brand by using the Creator Pages feature on Fortnite.com . Adding an Avatar, header and custom bio will give your players a chance to see more about you and more easily find your other epic islands. Keeping interested players bouncing around your eco system is a great way to build trust in your audience and they'll be far more likely to use that "Follow a creator" button.

The new reporting tool for Creators!

After spending months or even years working on an exciting island, to later see someone has completely ripped of your promotional art or branding is something we wouldn't wish on our worst enemies.

Epic has recently put in a steps to help creators report islands "that have a thumbnail, title or description that duplicates or is very similar to their own original creations.". We really like this decision because ultimately, the success of Fortnite Creative depends on incentivizing and maintaining a quality creator community and active player base. Ensuring quality and authenticity of islands, even the promotional elements are so important towards this.

Your weapons cache user manual!

Combat islands are currently the most common and best performing game modes on the creative ecosystem. No surprise there considering the game is built off of a combat game!

To help maximize the effectiveness and creativity of your own combat, Epic created the Weapon Primer documentation that goes into detail about the lesser known nuances around Fortnite weapons.

Some of these elements will be clear to avid Fortnite players such as weapon rarity and their different subcategories. However, weapon themes and modular weapons may have flown under the radar for some. This primer explains it all and also links to some hands on tutorials for building on these basic weapon concepts!

There is still PLENTY of updates we could highlight which are worth knowing for the upcoming Fortnite seasons. This is just our short list of important features that we feel are important for you that could have slipped by unnoticed.

Spotlight of the week

Arcade Prop Hunt - Arkad

1136-6328-4429

Arcade Prop Hunt by Arkad won our spotlight this week because we’re big fans of the environment art and design featured in this island. A lesser focused on element to prop hunt game modes is the environment lighting and dressing.

It plays a HUGE part for hiding players who literally depend on the effectiveness of the propping or set dressing, that allows them to fade inconspicuously into the background.

We feel the team behind this map invested a great deal of energy into creating a space that has rich lighting and various well set dressed areas, creating fun hiding spots for players. An emphasis for prop hunt games that we’d love to see more of!
