Do you know why players quit your Fortnite Island?
This week we wanted to share the most important analytics you should be tracking to build your island for success and grow your player base.
Lead Story
How do you know players are enjoying your island?
We all know, creating great islands with hundreds of engaged players doesn’t happen over night. A huge part of the process is iteration and improvements. So getting direct feedback, some analysis of how players run through your game, and probably more importantly, where they stop playing, is essential.
So here is our, top analytics you should keep a close eye on!
1. Player Number and Active Playtime
It will come at no surprise that your islands player count and active playtime are two of the most important metrics to watch. They are the key drivers for engagement and determining factors for the important engagement payout.
If you find your island has a high player count but low playtime, this can be a great indicator that your gameplay could be too slow, buggy or frustrating . On the other hand, if you find you have low player numbers but players tend to stick around, that is a good indicator that your island is fun and players are liking it, but maybe your marketing or thumbnails are letting you down. Speaking of thumbnails…
2. How do you know your thumbnail is working for you?
Impressions and clicks! Knowing impression count (how many times your island’s thumbnail appeared on a screen for more than two seconds) and how many clicks (the amount of times someone clicked on your thumbnail to go to your islands page), is an easy way to understand how effective your thumbnail and title is performing.
Finding you have high impressions but low clicks? It might be a good idea to invest more time into your thumbnail design. Study other islands which catch your eye on the discover tab and learn why they’re more captivating.
3. Need more granular data? The Analytics Device is here!
Last but not least, the Analytics Device is a great tool for any island creator, looking to get very specific and granular info about their game and how players interact!
If you’re interested in knowing how far player progress before quitting, how many times a weapon is picked up or pretty much any aspect of your islands gameplay, this device is your new best friend.
Granted, it does take some setting up and is more complicated than the other analytics, but the data returned from this device can give you some key info to improving gameplay and building a consistent audience.
If you’re interested in seeing how your island fares. Head to the docs below and find out where to see all this info!

Learning
Connecting player variables with UI!
Designing your own UI and unsure how to connected the players health or even their custom skin to HUD elements? We really liked this demo because its implementation is simple and easy to follow, but opens up a world of opportunity.
Understanding material parameters and connecting to the view bindings tool is SO powerful and makes building an intuitive UI a breeze!
Big thank you to Asicson for this one!
